Ed, I am attaching some photos of my Father-in-Law Arthur Albert Smith and his
best friend John Edward Thompson who both served on the BB-62 during WWII.
These were taken in Italy during 1944. I wanted to share them with everyone.
These two fine men remained best friends for over 50 years. They met each
other in the Navy. If you have any questions please let me know.

Ed,
I stumbled on this wonderful USS New Jersey site
tonight.
My Dad, Loye Elliott was a marine serving
aboard the USS New Jersey. He has a number of wonderful photographs from his
days aboard the ship. The first is the entire photo. The last is a blown
up version of the Marine unit. My father had circled his head.
I can ask my father again but my recollection is that there
were a number of shipmates who were recently assigned to the ship and had
not served in the war. The photo is dated April 20, 1946. My father has the
framed original. He is now 82 years old. His time in service was began in
1944. He served in the Japanese corridor.
Thank you all for all
of your hard work on this wonderful site. I consider it a privilege to share
some of my Dad's photographs with you.

I have attached two
pictures I had of my grandfather, Jack Lyndon Rayle, I believe these were
taken during his time with the USS New Jersey.
In the Long Beach picture.
Jack is in the middle, and the other picture Jack is on the end with the curly
hair. and the little guy fishing is my son Jack.
I don't know how, but do
you think my grandfather's pictures could be posted to the USS New Jersey
website and maybe someone who knows Jack will recognize these pictures.
I also have a $2 dollar bill with signatures of some of the men my grandfather
served with. The names I can make out are Earl Curtis, Robert
Donnely, Eddie Smith, Robert Krantz, Kid Tuney, Elmer Mose, George
Tate, and Clyde Homlman. I think this is so neat. I just want to thank
you both for how nice and responsive you have been to me.
Mr. Welch, I sent an email
to Dawson Todd, I would love to know how to get a copy of the the war log of
the USS New Jersey. That would be so awesome. You know I am already talking to
my husband about a summer trip to DC an NJ. I would love to set
foot on the worlds most decorated war ship! It would be such an honor.
and to have my little Jack step on a ship that holds the start of my family,
it would be so great. .

(B: 11/22/28 D: 9/26/2007). He was a USS New Jersey crewman
1946-1947, and assigned to compile/deliver The Jerseyman.
These photos were contributed by Captain Charles W. Frank USN (Ret.) via John Hagen. Thank you, Gentlemen.
Thank you so much for the website. My mother and I really enjoyed scrolling through the pics last night (10-13-08). My dad, Henry R. Risley, served from 1944 through March of 1946 on the USS New Jersey. I have always been very proud of his time in service and want to thank you for your contribution in honoring these men. Mother has a few pics of Dad and some of his friends but as Dad has passed away, (died of lung cancer 2/14/78). I am not sure if we will be able to supply any the names other than Dad's. If you can use them let me know and I will get them from mother and send them on to you. Thank you again for the time you have put into this, I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mary Risley Sumpter Just over a year ago (July '07) I contributed some pictures that my father had from his WWII days aboard the USS New Jersey. He has since come to live with me. Today we found a couple of photographs I thought you might like to include at your site. My father, Loye L. Elliott was with the Ninth Division of the Marine Corps. The first photograph was taken at Toyko Bay. First Row, second from the left would be Sgt. Elkins. The Company Commander wasn't in this photo but two of his Lieutenants are present. The one on the left side was Lieutenant "Stud" Lanagan. The second photograph was taken on August 20, 1946, the day of Dad's discharge from the Marine Corps, at McGills Cafe in Bremerton, Washington. Left to Right are: Loye Elliott, Earnest V. O'Brien, Wilfred R. Freiberger and _______Combs. Althea Jane Elliott Scott

When my father passed away my mother offered me a box of his old photographs. My dad, John “Ray” Malloy, was on the USCG Sassafras in the South Pacific. A handwritten note on the reverse of the photo reads; “U.S.S. New Jersey at anchor in Buckner Bay Okinawa Sept. 15, 1945”. Yours, Michael Malloy
I have a group photo my father, John B. Wicker, Fire Controlman 3rd Class had from his WWII days on the USS New Jersey.. It was taken en route to the US from Okinawa, April 1945. What makes this photo special is that it is accompanied with a name list of all the approx 65 people in the group photo. Thanks, Clark Wicker Ed, the following are some photos from taken aboard the USS New Jersey in Tokyo Bay in 1945 by my father Paul Robbins (WWII Uss New JerseyPlankowner) In them you can see the Japanese battleship Nagato. You can also see a Christmas tree on the stern and by the bridge! There are some shots of occupied Japan. Interesting moments in time captured in these photos. I hope you will enjoy them as much as my dad and I do. Thanks again for posting the reunion pictures, Jack (A proud plankowners son).
Bob, My father, SM3c Frank Aiello (deceased 1977), served on New Jersey from 09 FEB 43 – 23 DEC 45. I recently found this photo of him and several of his shipmates (I can make out a few SM insignia's on the uniforms). My guess this is post- VJ day. I’m on a quest to try to identify some of the men he is with. If anyone has any information or suggestions that might help, please contact me dave@aiellobuzz.com. Thanks!
